Breaking News: Tens of thousands of people are without power Sunday afternoon in the mid-west, as a massive storm begins to impact WA.

In a sign of things to come for Perth, Western Power said at least 18,000 customers are currently without power as winds start to impact a large part of Western Australia.

Currently northern regions, across the mid-west, are the worst impacted, with power infrastructure failing as winds bring down trees and branches.

A huge storm front added to an ex-tropical cyclone are combing to create a super storm off the coast.

Weather forecasts show an “explosive cyclogenisis” off the SW of WA tonight as the two storm systems merge into one.

People across WA are being told to take shelter, secure lose objects and prepare to suspend all non-essential travel.
