The 2020 Perth Royal Show has been cancelled.

Millions in revenue and economic activity will be lost, as the Premier decides the event can’t go ahead under current circumstances.

Despite no known community transmission of the virus since April, over 4-months-ago, the Premier said it wasn’t appropriate for the event to go ahead.

“Proceeding to phase 5 too soon is just not appropriate right now,” Mr McGowan said.

“We are trying to find the right balance between protecting our community and keeping our economy as open as possible.”

“If, for instance, community spread was brought under control in Victoria and New South Wales, if the virus was literally eliminated over there, perhaps our advice would change.”

Royal Agricultural Society chief officer Peter Cooper said the show would be back.

“While there will be tough decisions to be made over the next few months, one thing is certain, the Perth Royal Show will be back and we look forward to opening our gates to the thousands of showgoers, from across WA, very soon,” he said.
