A large dust storm is blanketing towns up and down the mid-west coast of Western Australia.

Geraldton is covered in thick red dust and visibility is down to just a few meters in some areas.

Strong winds are kicking up red dust from areas in the north, as winds blow down the coast and across interior areas.

The BOM WA shared images and footage from towns in the region.

A rare and serious storm is arriving across WA.

An ex-tropical cyclone is combining with a cold front to bring 130km/hr winds to the WA coast and flash flooding.

People are advised to batten down the hatches, lock down lose property and stay indoors. Non-essential travel should not take place. People are warned of power outages and possible property damage, as winds reach over 130/km hr.
